All About the Jam

What is a Comic Jam?
A comic Jam is a social gathering where people of all artistic skills and styles get together to create one comic strip. A page is divided up into sections, one person fills out one part and then passes it on to the next artist who illustrates the next section, passes it on and so on until you have one complete strip.

When is it?
The date and time are every last Wednesday of the month, from 7-9pm. The Jam takes place at Ox Guelph—37 Québec Street.

Why Should Anyone Participate in a Jam?
Jams are a fun, no pressure way to meet people and practice your drawing and improvisation skills. Food, fun, drinking and drawing, what’s not to like?;)

Do I Need to be a Professional Artist/Animator to Participate?
Heck no! In fact, yours truly is actually still very new to comic design and illustration, and wanted to create the opportunity to practice in a more social environment.

How Harshly Critical/Obnoxious/Drunk Am I Allowed to Be At These Gatherings?
Jams are an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere. If you can draw a stick figure doing something, then you can participate! Anyone who is overly inebriated, mean or offensive will be asked to leave.

Why Host one in Guelph?
Guelph, Ontario is a beautiful city with a thriving artistic community. There was a hole left after the disbandment of the previous local comic drawing group, so I decided to start up my own. I’m originally from Ottawa and attended the Jam sessions there, which were always enjoyable. Suzanne Marsden, fearless leader of the Ottawa Comix Jam, provided ample inspiration and advice for starting my own.:)
